Cheek Lift or Mid-face Lift
Dr. Brooke R. Seckel
A cheek lift or mid face lift is a plastic surgical procedure to remove aging changes and lift or tighten the cheeks and mid face region. A mid face lift or cheek lift is usually done in younger people who have early facial aging changes and loss of volume in the cheeks but whose jaw line, neck and brow are young looking, firm and full.
People choose a cheek lift or mid-face lift when the only sign of facial aging on their face is sagging cheek skin. People who have cheek or mid facelift are younger often in their late 30s or mid to late 40s, and want to prevent further aging changes.
The cheek lift or mid-face lift is done through a small scar that is usually entirely hidden in the hairline above the ear. The skin of the cheek is lifted and the deep fascia or SMAS is tightened. The excess skin is removed and the scar is placed entirely within the hair and is well hidden.
You will see improvement in the appearance of your mid face and cheek the day after your procedure. However on the second and third day swelling begins and you may see bruising especially near the eyes. However, many patients who undergo cheek lift have no bruising. Bandages are removed the morning after your cheek lift.
There is usually little discomfort with a cheek lift. You may feel the sensation of tightening but most patients do not complain of pain after a cheek lift or mid-face lift. You will be given pain medications to control any discomfort you may have.
Recovery from a cheek lift or mid-face lift is less then recovery from a full facelift. Expect your swelling to resolve in 10 days to 2 weeks. You should be comfortable being seen in public after the first week with makeup. I recommend not planning and important social event like a wedding for 6 weeks.
I recommend a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and experienced in facelift and facial rejuvenation surgery.
Cheek lift surgery, or mid-facelift surgery, is a great way to restore a youthful appearance, without the long recovery times of more comprehensive procedures such as facelift or neck lift.
