Remove A C-section Scar
Dr. Brooke R. Seckel
C-section scar removal is the removal and revision of a depressed or painful C-section scar. Often a mini tummy tuck is done at the same time as c section scar removal. In some cases depressed vertical C-section scars can be removed and laser liposuction used to thin down the surrounding areas to create an improved scar and a flat belly as in the photo below.

Most people who have C-section scar removal choose to have it done because:
Many women undergo the C-section scar removal procedure as part of a mommy makeover treatment.
Horizontal C-section scars are removed and usually a mini tummy tuck is done by undermining the skin above the C-section scar pulling it tight and removing the excess skin. In cases of a vertical depressed scar running from the belly button down to the pubis the scar is removed and laser liposuction is done to remove the fat from the surrounding skin to flatten the tummy.
C-section scar removal is not as painful as a full tummy tuck. Usually there is mild discomfort for few days which is managed well with pain medications.
When C-section scar removal also includes tummy tuck recovery may take 2 weeks. When simple removal of the scar is done recovery takes less time a week or 10 days.
You will see improvement immediately after surgery. However your final result can take 6 weeks to 3 months for final appearance.
I recommend waiting until 6 months or a year after you have finished breast-feeding. It is important for the best result that you have lost the extra weight and abdominal fat that you gained during pregnancy.
Yes this is a safe procedure if performed by a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You should be in good health, near your ideal weight, and not be a smoker if you want to have C-section scar removal and a tummy tuck.
I recommend a surgeon who is experienced in tummy tuck surgery and scar removal techniques and a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
