How do I remove chubby cheeks or thin a fat face?
There is a special procedure called a Buccal fat pad removal which can remove a cheek fat pad which causes chubby cheeks, puffy cheeks, or a fat face. Fortunately this procedure is done on the inside of the mouth so there is no visible scarring on the face. The Buccal fat pad removal can create a nice depression beneath the cheek bone which emphasizes the high cheek bone appearance.
Why do people have Buccal fat pad removal or removal of chubby cheeks?
People may choose to have Buccal fat pad removal for the following reasons:
- Patients who feel they have chubby cheeks or a fat face
- Patients who have had jaw or mandibular surgery to reduce chin or jaw size. This jaw shortening procedure is called a setback mandibuloplasty. The setback mandibuloplasty shortens the jaw, but in doing so it can push the mid face tissues back and compress them which makes the cheeks look fatter.
- Patients who want prominent high cheek bones with sunken cheeks under the cheek bones.
How is Buccal fat pad removal to thin a fat face done?
Buccal fat removal is done through the inside of the mouth in the cheek area. The intraoral procedure leaves no visible scarring on the outside of the face. The Buccal fat pad is gently teased out and removed. When the Buccal fat pad is removed the area beneath the cheek bones sinks in and accentuates the high cheek bone appearance.
What will I look like after a Buccal fat pad removal or removal of a fat face?
After buccal fat pad removal the face can appear swollen, but bruising is unusual. Within 2-3 weeks after swelling has gone down you will begin to see thinness in the cheeks below the cheek bone.
How long is recovery after Buccal fat pad removal?
Swelling can last 2-3 weeks. During the first 3-4 days you will be on a soft or semi-liquid diet, and you will have to use an antibiotic mouthwash to rinse and spit several times a day to keep the inside of the mouth clean. Plan on a week to 10 days of recovery as the tissues inside the mouth heal much quicker than the skin.
Does fat pad removal hurt?
Since Buccal fat pad removal is a soft tissue procedure discomfort is mild. Most patients do not complain of pain but you are given pain medications to take if you need them.
What does buccal fat pad removal cost?
The cost of Buccal fat pad removal is $4000 to $7500. More expensive fees can occur when general anesthesia is used.
